Most of us spend a great deal of money on our holidays, not to mention the time we take out of normal life to make them happen, so it is only natural that we would want to get the absolute most out of them.

Whether you have chosen caravan hire in Norfolk from Cobbleacre Park or you are jetting off to stay in a beach apartment in Bali, there are a number of things you can do to ensure you make the most of your holiday, including the following:

1. Be a bit freer

There is a lot to be said when it comes to being organised for your holidays. Good organisation skills mean you never miss your flighty and that you have enough money to see you through, but there is such a thing as being too organised.

If you have your itinerary planned down to the second, for example, then you will lose the spontaneity that makes exploring a place so much fun and you will miss out on that amazing little bistro hidden on the beach or that cool marketplace where you can get a bargain because you have a tram to catch. Be a bit freer and enjoy things even more.

2. Try something new

Trying something new is one of the best things about going on holiday. So many people stick to the food they know because they are scared they won’t like the local fair, or they stick to the same activities they would do at home because they aren’t sure they will like windsurfing or hiking in the mountains or whatever, and it makes their holidays smaller. Obviously, if you do try something and you don’t like it, then it’s fine to go back to sipping cocktails on the beach, and you shouldn’t spend your whole holiday doing things you might not like, but when the chance arises, try joining in and you will have so much more fun.

3. Talk to the locals

Spending some time mingling with the locals is a great way to improve foreign holidays because the locals are the people who know all of the best restaurants, the quietest beaches and all of the attractions that the tourist guides do not tell you about. Not only that, but learning more about their culture can be very enriching too.

4. Stop taking so many pictures

Of course, holiday snaps are important. They are a reminder of the fun you had that you can look back on in years to come. However, if you are spending all of your time taking photos, lining up shots and perfecting your pout when you could be in the moment embracing the dun on your face or the sight of that beautiful dolphin in the crystal blue water, you are missing out. Put the phone down and enjoy being in the moment in the place where you are.

Embrace these ideas to make the most of your holiday and you will enjoy it even more than ever before.
