How to Plan an Epic Australian Road Trip

One great bucket list idea is to visit every continent in the world, and what better way to do that than on the open road? So, whether you’ve just started your road tripping adventures or you’ve already been through America or Europe, there’s no reason to put off road-tripping through Australia.

After all, Australia is even larger than Europe and has a fantastic range of climates and landscapes to explore. Just remember that the seasons are the opposite way round, so don’t go in winter and expect a cool trip!

Once you’ve got your visa sorted out and your flights booked, there’s nothing left to do but to get your plans solidified. Some of your plans should come even earlier, like the length of your trip and who’s going with you. Here are some quick tips to help out.

The Right Vehicle

You can’t go on a road trip without a vehicle, but your choice can make or break your adventure. Your vehicle needs to be roomy and comfortable, preferably with air conditioning. But your choice might change depending on your trip.

Off-road vehicles might be ideal for more rugged adventures. But if you’re planning on a long trip with a few friends, then a crew van might be the best choice as it’s spacious enough for you and your supplies. You can hire one at sydneyutehire.com.au.

Know Where You’re Going

Your route depends on plenty of factors, including what kind of adventure you want and how long you want to go for. A trip along the coast will let you explore the stunning scenery and bustling towns alike, while an adventure in the outback will put you far from other people and you’ll have an unforgettable experience.

The most important thing is that you plan your route and know it well. Getting lost on a road trip is never fun, but getting lost in the middle of nowhere is far worse. The good news is that you can use OS Maps in Australia now, although it’s always handy to have paper maps on hand.

Pack Right

Depending on how long you plan to road-trip, you may need to pack different supplies. You should at least have some food and water, as well as medical supplies and any medications that people need.

However, the bare minimum isn’t the best way to get the most out of your trip. Spare clothes and underwear are vital, as well as blankets and pillows for anyone who wants a nap in the car. Toilet rolls and other toiletries are very handy to have, even if you’re planning to make stops along the way.

You should also keep a tank of extra fuel with you, especially if you’re going to the outback. Keep the fuel in a safe container. Bin bags are very handy, as trash builds up quickly on the road. Camping supplies and kitchen utensils are useful even if you plan on sleeping in hotels. But as well as practical supplies, don’t forget the entertainment. Battery banks to keep devices charged and even some travel games can keep spirits up on the road.
